The UK Ministry of Defence continues to place responsibility for system delivery on to the shoulders of prime contractors. Defence prime contractors need a reliable partner to provide services to ensure that delivery obligations are satisfied. They require a partner with the skills to enable a step change increase in the capabilities of today's software intensive defence systems.

IPL's record of more than two decades of continuous major defence developments has provided substantial domain knowledge. Our involvement with leading-edge technologies in other market sectors, coupled with an active and comprehensive company training programme, means that we can supply the necessary up-to-date software development skills.

Defence prime contractors also need a partner that they can trust. We can demonstrate fulfilment of that requirement through our impressive delivery track record, and our history of long and successful partnerships.

All partnerships have one thing in common - they need a commitment by all involved to make them successful. They can however differ greatly in the detail, and so we are adept at fitting in with the needs of each individual prime contactor by providing services that complement their own in-house resources. These services include:

• Bid expertise and effort. We can provide systems and software development expertise under a joint-bid arrangement to help you produce a winning proposal.
• Software development. We aim to solve your development problems by taking responsibility for whatever scope of software development you need. This can range from IPL delivering a complete system (often under a fixed-price arrangement), through to IPL providing individual staff, or teams, to augment your own software development capability.
• Software testing. High-integrity software development demands a comprehensive testing programme. We can provide the necessary independence between the development and testing teams by offering a cost-effective testing service.
• Post-development services. Our involvement with the system need not finish when the software development is complete. We can provide a range of other services including training, system enhancement, and post-implementation support.

Although the majority of IPL's defence sector experience is derived from partnering major prime contractors, IPL also acts as prime contractor to the MoD for small to medium scale contracts which are primarily for software development.
